The scale on maps
A map is a reduced image of the Earth in
which may represent the geographical space
fico from the nearest, as your municipality
large scale, to the farthest, as the con-
nent a small scale. The scale indicates how many
times reduced the area to be represented
sents on a map. You can find two types
Scale: numerical or graphical.
The numerical scale
It is represented as follows:
Scale:
1:10 000 000
It reads like this:
Scale: 1 to 10,000,000
If the unit of measurement is centimeters map
metro, then is interpreted as follows: 1 cm is equal
a 10 000 000 cm.
This means that for a map with that
scale, we measure every centimeter equals
10 million centimeters in reality.
Identify the scale at the regional maps
and a national of Venezuela you observed in the
previous page.
The graphic scale is a rule that allows you
measuring the distance in centimeters between two locations
within a map and indicates how many kilometers
equals that distance in reality.
