According to the National Center for Disaster Prevention (
PRICE
-
BEFORE
) In Mexico between May and November they are presented on average
23 tropical cyclones, 14 of which occur in the ocean Paci fi c
and nine in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. Of these, approxi-
mately four come each year to the national territory, two from
the Pacific and two from the Atlantic. By the number of cyclones
arrive, the states of the region most vulnerable Paci fi co are: Low
California Sur, Michoacan, Sinaloa and Sonora, due to the existence
major centers of population settled along their
coasts; it has been estimated that people exposed to this phenomenon
are approximately 4 million (40% of the total population of these
state). Another group also vulnerable to cyclones are the states
Campeche, Quintana Roo, Colima and 19 coastal municipalities of
Jalisco. It is estimated that in these states, approximately 2 million
people are exposed to suffer its effects, mainly
floods.
